Health Insurance Participants Advised to Check Card Validity to Avoid Disruption of Medical Benefits

Health Insurance (HI) participants are advised to proactively check the validity period of their HI cards to avoid any interruption in their medical examination and treatment benefits.

A valid HI card serves as the basis for the Health Insurance Fund to cover medical examination and treatment expenses for participants. If a participant unintentionally allows the HI card to expire and encounters unexpected health issues, they will have to bear the full cost of medical treatment themselves.

To safeguard their medical benefits, participants should regularly check the expiration date of their HI cards and promptly renew them before they expire. This helps prevent disruptions to legitimate medical benefits and ensures that the continuous five-year participation entitlement is not affected.

Currently, Vietnam Social Security (VSS) has provided multiple convenient channels for checking HI card validity, enabling participants to access information anytime and anywhere.

Checking via the VNeID Application

Participants log into their account, select “Document Wallet,” then choose “Health Insurance Card” to view the card’s validity period.

Checking via the VssID – Digital Social Insurance Application

After logging into the application, select “Health Insurance Card” to check the card’s validity, the date of eligibility for five consecutive years of participation, and the entitled benefits. The digital HI card displayed on the application can be presented at medical facilities in place of the physical card.

Checking via the Vietnam Social Security Portal

Select “Check Health Insurance Validity,” then enter the HI code, full name, and date of birth as required to verify the card’s expiration date.

Checking via the Vietnam Social Security Customer Service Hotline

Participants may call 1900 9068 (service fee: VND 1,000 per minute) and provide their HI code, full name, and date of birth as instructed to receive assistance in checking the card’s validity and participation history.

If the HI card is about to expire or has already expired, participants should promptly complete renewal procedures. Timely verification and renewal help ensure uninterrupted medical examination and treatment benefits in accordance with regulations, preventing avoidable out-of-pocket medical expenses that would otherwise be covered if the HI card remained valid.
